Terms of use
Rules for using the THREATBYTES™ public research website, documentation, and platform features—including governed malware research.
By accessing or using THREATBYTES™ websites, APIs, or platform features, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the services. Where you use the platform on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind that organisation.
These terms supplement - not replace - applicable law, ethics approvals, and the host institution's policies once the host institution is confirmed.
THREATBYTES™ is a doctoral research platform for agentic, cognitive super intelligence (SI) applied to predictive malware intelligence. Public pages document the research programme; authenticated areas may provide demonstrations, specimen workflows, and evaluation tooling.
Features may change during development. DEMO or mock data may be labelled as such and must not be treated as operational threat intelligence for production defence decisions without independent verification.
You may use the public site for lawful research, education, and collaboration. You may create an account only if registration is offered and you provide accurate information.
You must not use the platform to attack third parties, distribute malware outside governed sandboxes, harass individuals, scrape at rates that impair service, or attempt to bypass security controls.
Malware-related functionality exists solely for authorised security research under ethics and governance documented on the research site. You must:
- Submit specimens only through documented ingestion paths. - Never execute suspicious files on systems you are not authorised to use for research. - Comply with export control, computer misuse, and institutional ethics requirements. - Not upload personal data embedded in samples unless permitted by ethics approval.
We may quarantine, reject, or delete submissions that violate policy or pose undue risk.
Credentials are personal. You are responsible for activity under your account. Notify us immediately via Security disclosure if you suspect compromise. We may suspend or terminate access for breach of these terms, risk to the platform, or ethics violations.
Site content, branding, documentation, and software are protected by copyright and related rights unless otherwise stated. Research outputs may be published under separate licences cited on Results and Outputs pages.
You retain rights in content you submit where applicable, but grant us a licence to host, analyse, and use submissions for research, reproducibility, and platform operation as described in ethics and privacy documentation.
Materials are provided for research transparency. Detection scores, reports, and SI outputs may be incomplete or incorrect. They do not constitute legal, compliance, or incident-response advice. Operational security decisions remain your responsibility.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, THREATBYTES™ and its contributors are not liable for indirect, consequential, or special damages arising from use of the site or platform. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or other liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
Where the platform is provided without charge for research purposes, liability for direct loss may be limited to the amount you paid for access in the preceding twelve months (often zero).
The site may link to external resources (for example GOV.UK, NCSC, academic publishers). We are not responsible for third-party content or privacy practices. Your use of external services is governed by their terms.
We aim for reliable operation but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Maintenance, research experiments, or security incidents may cause downtime. We may modify or discontinue features with reasonable notice where practicable.
We may suspend or terminate access immediately where necessary to protect users, infrastructure, or legal compliance. Provisions that by nature should survive (intellectual property, liability limits, governing law) continue after termination.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales unless institutional hosting requires otherwise. Courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction subject to mandatory consumer protections where applicable.
Questions about these terms: Contact page (general or research routes). Security issues: Security disclosure.
